Helene Weigel – Revolutionärin im Rampenlicht
About
A documentary about the actress Helene Weigel, who rose from being called the loudest actress in Berlin to a theater star and later headed the Berliner Ensemble. Direction, screenplay and production are by Maria Wischnewski. Using newly digitized archive material, personal letters and contemporary witnesses such as Katharina Thalbach, Johanna Schall and Manfred Karge, the film portrays the woman at Bertolt Brecht's side and her struggle for herself, the art of acting and cultural policy. It also tells of the private side of this highly political life, with letters spoken by Birgit Minichmayr and August Diehl.
