About
INTERFILM42 hosts a conversation with Sudanese film curator and producer Talal Afifi on militant cinema, political film in Sudan and the conditions of visibility. He founded the Sudan Film Factory and the Sudan Independent Film Festival and has long championed independent Sudanese filmmaking, most recently with the documentary KHARTOUM (2025). The talk asks what militant film can mean today – not as a genre or visual style, but as the relationships between filmmakers and the communities they work with, and between production, financing, presentation and political responsibility. Film excerpts from Sudanese films, which can become forms of collective memory, refusal and political agency, accompany the conversation, held in curatorial collaboration with Sudan Film Factory.
