Philosophy, Politics, and the Possible: Plato's Seventh Letter in Dialogue with the Republic
Bard College, Niederschönhausen
About
A lecture on Plato's much debated Seventh Letter and its relation to the Republic. The speaker is Schuyler Curriden, an alumnus of Bard College Berlin who now studies Ancient Greek philosophy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He presents Plato's failed attempt to convert the Syracusan tyrant Dionysius II to philosophy and the resulting limits of theory and education in the political realm. With these limits in mind, the feasibility of the Republic's political program is reevaluated.
