Salon bei Schleiermacher "Johannes Bobrowski. Eine Hommage."
St. Marienkirche, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 8, 10178 Berlin, Mitte
About
An evening of the "Salon bei Schleiermacher" series is a homage to Johannes Bobrowski, a poet born in 1917 in Tilsit who died at only 48. The wide eastern landscapes of his homeland, from former East Prussia across the Memel region to the Baltic areas, were a space of longing for him. This region of many peoples – "and in the midst of them all the Jewry" – was at the same time filled with the historical crimes of the Germans and memories of his own childhood and youth. With Gabi Streichhahn and Ute Falkenau as host, his poems and stories are presented, whose blend of weighty archaism and radical modernity make them a rare linguistic pleasure.
