About
A reading followed by a conversation at the Bezirkszentralbibliothek Pablo Neruda. Irene Bindel, a contemporary witness born in Berlin in 1938, reads from her book „Wassermilch und Spitzenwein“ and tells of her family history spanning more than a century. As the daughter of a Christian mother and a Jewish father, she recounts her family's fate during the Nazi era and the difficult post-war years – her father was imprisoned by the Nazi regime and never returned, while her young mother had to struggle through a time of hardships alone with her daughter. Drawing on her mother's diaries, she offers very personal insights into this moving era, invites the audience to ask questions in the ensuing conversation, and the event is a cooperation between the Gilberto-Bosques-Volkshochschule Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, the Stadtbibliothek Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and the Gesellschaft für Christlich-Jüdische Zusammenarbeit in Berlin e.V.
