Spaziergang nach Syrakus
About
This is a cinema screening of the film "Spaziergang nach Syrakus". The film by director Lars Jessen with Charly Hübner and Lina Beckmann tells of Paul Gompitz, who in 1982 lives in the GDR and dreams of following the poet Johann Gottfried Seume's footsteps to Syracuse in Sicily. When all his applications for an official exit permit fail, he must plan an escape – and he wants to return home to his wife Anne in Rostock afterwards. Based on motifs from Friedrich Christian Delius's novel, the film is about longing for freedom, courage, deep love and loyalty.

Critics
6.8Good
Critics praise the empathetic, brilliant lead performances, careful direction and sensitive storytelling. They fault the detached style, a lack of tension and sluggish, drawn-out passages.
