"Wer weiß schon, was ein Leben ist?" is a hybrid documentary about the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, who is counted among the most important modernist artists today yet sold hardly a single painting in her lifetime. On the occasion of her 150th birthday, actress Katharina Stark sets out between Worpswede and Paris to trace this extraordinary woman, approaching her life, work and thinking. The deeper she immerses herself in the artist's world, the more the search becomes an encounter with herself. The result is a poetic film about artistic freedom, female self-determination and the timeless question of what a life is.
