About

The semi-fictional cinema portrait "Wer weiß schon, was ein Leben ist?" is devoted to the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, who is counted today among the most important modernist women artists, yet sold hardly a single picture during her lifetime. On the occasion of her 150th birthday, actress Katharina Stark sets out between Worpswede and Paris to trace this extraordinary woman. The deeper she immerses herself in the artist's life, work and thinking, the more the search becomes an encounter with herself. The result is a poetic hybrid documentary about artistic freedom, female self-determination and the timeless question of what a life is.
