A hard line to bend: sculpture by Liz Larner.
About
An exhibition of sculpture by the American artist Liz Larner, her first at a major UK institution, running as a series of rooms of works mainly from the last decade. The show traces ideas of transformation, from ancient myth and cosmology to the cycles of matter, reflecting how we are embodied within and intervene in the material world. Its centrepiece is a new work inspired by the mythic figure Lilith, incorporating a bronze-cast human hand and owl foot and a branch from a tree by the artist's studio, alongside ceramic slabs and assemblages of discarded single-use plastics. Larner's intuitive use of clay, metal, wood and plastic proposes alternatives to humanity's current path through the Anthropocene.
