About

An artist talk at The Photographers' Gallery celebrating the retrospective publication 'A Grassroots Legacy – 1962–2010'. Photographer Charlie Phillips, who documented the West Indian community in London across the 1960s, 70s and 80s, joins Paul Goodwin in conversation, chaired by Isaac Huxtable. The book gathers his era-defining street photography, from musicians, street life and parties to British Caribbean funerals and cultural traditions, capturing a changing London and Britain. The conversation explores his approach to documenting community, culture and everyday life, and the lasting importance of this work.
