About
Iphigénie en Tauride is Gluck's rarely performed opera about Iphigénie and her brother Oreste, children of a blood-soaked Greek dynasty, who are stranded apart and each fear the other is dead. Stranded on a remote island, forced to serve a terrifying ruler, Iphigénie dreams of home and of reuniting with her brother, until a mysterious stranger washes ashore with news of her family's collapse. English National Opera presents the work in a new staging by Olivier award-winning director Lyndsey Turner, with baroque specialist David Bates conducting and Christine Rice leading the cast as Iphigénie. The opera is sung in its original French libretto by Nicolas-François Guillard with English surtitles projected above the stage.
