About

La Dame de Pique is an opera by Fromental Halévy, premiered in 1850 and not staged since, in a Halloween production by the London-based, female-led company Gothic Opera. Loosely based on Pushkin's story, it follows a shifting web of ambition, strategy and survival across every level of a French society on the brink, in the dying days of the Ancien Régime. It is performed in French with English surtitles by a cast of emerging singers with a chamber orchestra, and runs about 2 hours and 45 minutes including an interval. The show is recommended for ages 12 and over and takes place in the venue's Grand Hall.
