Blackheath Halls, 23 Lee Road, SE3 9RQ London
£35 / £25 Students & U21s
About
A concert at the London International Festival of Early Music in which the viol consort Phantasm and lutenist Elizabeth Kenny reunite to perform their award-winning interpretation of John Dowland's Lachrimae or Seven Tears in the composer's anniversary year. Phantasm, founded in 1994 by Laurence Dreyfus, is an acclaimed viol consort whose recording of this programme won the 2017 Gramophone Award and the 2017 Diapason d'or de l'année. The programme of dance music for viols and lute centres on the seven variants of the Lachrimae theme and sums up the Renaissance preoccupation with melancholy, including Dowland's signature piece Semper Dowland Semper Dolens.
