Michael Landy: Future Ruins
Sir John Soane's Museum, Lincoln's Inn Fields 13, WC2A 3BP London, Holborn
About
An exhibition of Michael Landy's drawings showing famous buildings in ruins, held at Sir John Soane's Museum. The artist, born in 1963, is known as one of the most talented draughtsmen of his generation and is better known for large installations and participatory works. His series was inspired by Joseph Michael Gandy's watercolour 'Architectural Ruins: A Vision', commissioned by Sir John Soane, and includes new work imagining the Museum itself in ruins alongside depictions of Mar-a-Lago, the New York Stock Exchange, Chatsworth House and places from Landy's childhood. Through the drawings he continues his decades-long exploration of capitalism, consumerism and destruction, showing architecture's shift from richness to decay and nostalgia.
