About

Stitched Stories is a hands-on mixed-media workshop in which histories, memories and stories are transformed into textile. It is led by Paula Ogun Hector, artist, curator and founder of Tapestry of Black Britons. Working with archival materials from 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning, participants use embroidery, appliqué, collage and textile-making to explore imagery connected to Brixton, community activism and histories of Black British resistance. The workshop forms part of the research and community engagement around Uprisings: From Haiti to Brixton, a new tapestry in development within her evolving Tapestry of Black Britons project, and no previous experience is required as all materials are provided.
