The Genie and Other Stories
Heath Robinson Museum, West End Lane, HA5 1AE Pinner, Pinner
About
An art exhibition at the Heath Robinson Museum in which hand-blown glass, jewellery and historic treasures enter a dialogue with Heath Robinson's illustrations of the Arabian Nights. It was created by Michael Petry, a renowned artist and Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, London, and launches the museum's new programme of artist commissions. At its heart is The Genie, an installation of 27 individually hand-blown, multi-coloured glass vessels conceived to hold wishes, surrounded by reimagined silver objects, monumental necklaces of semi-precious stones, contemporary jewellery and glittering historic jewels. Petry's works are shown alongside the original illustrations that inspired them, with a particular focus on Aladdin, exploring fantasy, transformation, value, and how stories and images change as they travel between cultures and generations.
