Threads of Ascent: Tapestries by Clare Woods
Garden Museum, Lambeth
Free entry
About
An exhibition of three large-scale handwoven tapestries by Clare Woods, shown at the Garden Museum. The artist made them in collaboration with weavers at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh, working from small watercolours of climbing weeds. Bindweed on a high-security fence, a passion fruit vine over a Los Angeles chain-link fence, and common vetch in an abandoned allotment turn overlooked plants into monumental woven landscapes. The free exhibition coincides with a new display of the museum's 17th-century Mortlake tapestry, celebrating 400 years of tapestry-making in the UK.
