About

A seminar in the UCL Human Geography Seminar Series, open to staff, students and visitors. Professor Steven Pile of the Open University examines the social housing estate as a dynamic site of spatial negotiation, drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, participatory mapping and a public art intervention on the Hilgrove Estate in north London. His co-authored paper argues that estates are neither purely hyper-local nor borderless, proposing a framework of trans-scalarity to capture how boundedness and openness coexist in everyday estate life.
