About
A concert evening celebrating 61 years of creative music by the New York City Chapter of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), presented in partnership with Roulette, with Richarda Abrams as Mistress of Ceremonies. It features two sets: JD Parran & Spirit Stage 3, with Parran on saxophone, clarinet and flutes alongside Christopher Dean Sullivan, Alexis Marcelo and Michael T A Thompson, and composer-pianist Adegoke Steve Colson with composer-vocalist Iqua Colson, joined by Steven Bernstein, Luke Stewart and Chris Beck. The AACM, co-founded in 1965 in Chicago by Dr. Muhal Richard Abrams, Jodie Christian, Kelan Phil Cohran and Steve McCall, is one of the oldest musicians associations in the United States, and its New York chapter was established in 1983 by members who moved to the city. The Colsons, early AACM members called a "musical power couple" by The New York Times, create music that often illuminates social issues.
