About

Floodplain Forest Fridays is a volunteer outing along Turtle Creek, the stream feeding the mill pond from the northwest. The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance invites helpers to plant native trees from NYC Parks in the floodplain and cut back invasive phragmites by hand, helping the floodplain forest take back ground from the reeds. Volunteers meet outside the VCPA offices at the Golf House and leave for the worksite by 9:15 AM. The work is limited to 30 volunteers per shift, ages 15 and up, with tools and gloves provided.
