About

"Heavens" is a solo exhibition of paintings and light works by the abstract artist Nick Thomm, held at The Hole's Bowery space. In a dramatic installation, Thomm activates all corners of the gallery to place color on parade, with glossy, glowing color lozenges and lightbox works that bounce colored light around the rooms and onto the viewer. Taking cues from the California Light and Space movement as well as contemporary design and car culture, he uses hidden light sources, protective resin, slick printing and smooth paint to overwhelm and intrigue. Thomm, born 1988 in Melbourne and splitting his time between Los Angeles and Melbourne, is known for his large-scale hyper-color "spectral paintings" and immersive digital installations.
