lilia carrillo: mañana de octubre
Kurimanzutto Gallery, West 20th Street 520, 10011 New York, Manhattan
About
An exhibition of paintings and works on paper by the Mexican artist Lilia Carrillo, on view at kurimanzutto's New York space. Carrillo, born in Mexico City in 1930, was a central figure in the development of abstraction in Mexico and part of the Generación de la Ruptura, whose artists challenged dominant figurative and nationalist traditions. Spanning 1948 to 1974 and titled after her 1964 work Mañana de octubre, the show traces her experimentation with color, pictorial space, textiles, and printed images, drawing largely from her personal collection preserved by her husband, the sculptor Manuel Felguérez.
