About
Opening Reception: Spot P! celebrates the opening of the exhibition Spot P! at Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, free and open to the public. Dutch artist Kasper Klop, together with artistic partner Morwenna Spagnol and videographer Deron Gopie, created a multiple choice survey on how much New Yorkers know about Peter Stuyvesant and what they think of him. Stuyvesant is celebrated around town with statues, neighborhoods and a cigarette brand, yet he was a trader and owner of enslaved Africans who sold people at public auction, held deeply antisemitic views, violently oppressed the Lenape and suppressed religious minorities. The exhibition shows New Yorkers' replies to the survey alongside extracts of Stuyvesant's own writings and letters addressed to him, on view from October 29, 2026 to January 30, 2027.
