About

A demonstration where you can try out a haptic device yourself. Behind it is Force Dimension, a spin-off of EPFL: the device transfers movements to a robot and feeds back what the robot feels, such as the weight of a stone or the resistance of a surface. In 2019, ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano used it to steer a rover on Earth through a simulated lunar landscape from orbit. The technology is meant to one day allow robots on the Moon or Mars to be controlled precisely and with a real sense of touch.
