An opera evening at Zurich Opera House bringing together Sergei Rachmaninoff's three one-act operas "Aleko", "Skupoj rýtsar" and "Francesca da Rimini". The late-Romantic triptych centres on power, control and destructive greed, and on a love that overcomes guilt and death. Dmitri Tcherniakov, a master of radical de-romanticising, stages a relentless study of human abysses. The rarely performed works, seldom heard together, are conducted by Gianandrea Noseda and sung in Russian with German and English surtitles.
