About
"DIE JAZZPIANISTIN" is a jazz theater piece about the pianist Jutta Hipp, known as "Europe´s First Lady of Jazz", who could not cope with the limelight. It tells her life: from Leipzig and her secret love of forbidden jazz during the Nazi era, through her rise to triumphant performances in New York, to her sudden silence, which ended in alcohol addiction and homelessness. The play was written by Patricia Hoffmann, who also directs and plays Leo Klein; the musical direction is by Antonia Hausmann. Music, theater and history weave together into a homage to this nearly forgotten artist.
