About
The documentary film „Simon Hantaï ou Les Silences rétiniens“ about the French-Hungarian painter Simon Hantaï (1922–2008) is being screened. Jean-Michel Meurice shot it in the summer of 1976 in Hantaï's house in Meun near Fontainebleau, where the artist had lived with his family since the late 1960s. The film paints an intimate portrait and focuses on Hantaï's creative process, especially the revolutionary folding technique he developed in the late 1950s. The camera captures the physical tension of his work, his constant mental engagement with the emerging piece, and the final unveiling of its colorful motifs.
