Queer Thursday: Frauke Hippler und Zeitzeug*innengespräch
Bibliothek Buch, Wiltbergstraße 19-23, 13125 Berlin-Buch, Buch
About
A talk about hidden personal ads placed by women who love women in the Wochenpost, one of the most widely read magazines in the GDR. Frauke Hippler, who studied at the Institute of Cultural Sciences at Leipzig University and wrote her master's thesis on the subject, searched out these concealed ads and interviewed the women. Since being lesbian was long taboo in the GDR and official meeting places were lacking, women* sought all kinds of ways to find like-minded people. The ads speak their own language and offer a glimpse into this hidden life.
