Vietnam. Kunst. DDR. Reclaiming Solidarity is an exhibition presenting selected works from the GDR and from the present day. Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank devotes it to the motif of international solidarity in the artistic exchange between Vietnam and the GDR, a political guiding idea that during the Vietnam War drew wide expressions of solidarity in the GDR and stimulated varied artistic production. At the same time the exhibition looks at the living realities of Vietnamese contract workers and at how contemporary artists deal with them critically. Works from the Kunstsammlung der Berliner Volksbank place the exhibited pieces in the wider context of socialist image production and open space for discourse on power relations, one-sided projections, cultural attributions and individual scope for action.
