About
An exhibition marking the centenary of the birth of Greek artist Giorgos Ioannou (1926–2017), the first significant presentation of his work in the UK. Co-curated by Sofia Karamani and Nayia Yiakoumaki, it focuses on paintings from the late 1960s and 1970s, shaped by the Greek military dictatorship. Known for pop art and comic-book imagery, Ioannou wove together personal memory, political trauma, folk traditions and autobiography. The exhibition is accompanied by a small publication and a programme of events, including an in-conversation with the artist's son, Dimitris Ioannou, and Kostas Stasinopoulos, moderated by Andrew Wilson.
