Opera Unwrapped: Iphigénie en Tauride
London Coliseum, St Martin's Lane 32-35, WC2N 4ES London, Covent Garden
About
Opera Unwrapped: Iphigénie en Tauride is an evening panel event at which members of the cast, company, and artistic and creative team are joined in discussion. It accompanies English National Opera's first production of Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride, performed in the original French and directed by Lyndsey Turner. Widely considered Gluck's greatest work, the opera influenced Mozart, Berlioz, and Wagner with its dramatic contrasts and orchestral colour, and is conducted by Baroque specialist David Bates, with Christine Rice in the titular role of Iphigénie. The event opens with a live performance from one of the principal artists and covers the rehearsal process and the panellists' creative backgrounds.
