About
Peglar papers reading workshop is a series of creative reading workshops centred on the 'Peglar wallet', a unique manuscript linked to the lost John Franklin expedition of 1845, containing papers of Henry Peter Peglar, Captain of the foretop of HMS Terror. Participants read the papers together on high resolution scans and produce a collective transcription, working from the most legible texts to the least, and treat them as a piece of art using a queer methodology of interdisciplinarity, playfulness and reading between the lines. The workshop is led by Ema Sala, a Caird Fellow at Royal Museums Greenwich researching female sailors and coordinator of the museum's Queer History Club. It is free, aimed at everyone at every level of manuscript reading, and takes place in the Plymouth Room in a hybrid format, with in-person attendance strongly encouraged.
