About

"The Girl" is a contemporary translation and feminist adaptation of Lorca's Yerma. Translator and dramaturg Carlota Baker, director Anna Rose, adapter Tristan Delnevo and producer and designer Nika Kamaeva set the piece in Margaret Thatcher's England amid Second Wave Feminism, asking whether there is really any space for your own wants in a world full of expectations. Drawing on the team's personal experiences and interviews, it unpacks the stereotypes pushed upon women in the 1980s, including the pressure to be the "Supermum", and links them to the modern trend of "tradwives".
