Christopher Green on Rousseau's mysterious paintings.
There is nothing simple about Henri Rousseau. Prof. C Green
About
A lecture on the painter Henri 'Le Douanier' Rousseau at Keats Community Library. Christopher Green, Emeritus Professor at the Courtauld Institute of Art and co-curator of a recent major Rousseau exhibition in Paris, explores what we know — and what we may never know — about Rousseau and his extraordinary paintings. He draws on things learned from curating the show and from new conservation research in Philadelphia and Paris, asking just how simple Rousseau really was as a man and a painter.
