About

"Grace Carney: To the Bone" is a solo exhibition of paintings at the gallery P·P·O·W, on 392 Broadway in New York City. It is the artist's second solo show with the gallery, presenting a year of work that moves from heaviness and longing toward joy and hopefulness. Carney, a painter born in Minnesota and trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and the New York Studio School, builds her canvases over months or years with hands, brushes, and printing tools, referencing Baroque and Renaissance painting, literature, daily life, and her own body. The show includes the title painting, works such as "The Thud of Unripe Fruit," and small portraits inspired by Renaissance portraiture.
