About
"Some Came Running" is a screening of the 1950s American melodrama of that title. Vincente Minnelli directed this adaptation of James Jones's novel, starring Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Dean Martin, Martha Hyer and Arthur Kennedy. It tells of rootlessness in post–World War II America: Sinatra plays an alcoholic war veteran and former writer who returns to his Indiana hometown to find nothing is quite as he remembered it. Dean Martin is the unrepentant gambler he befriends, and Shirley MacLaine is heartbreaking as a wayward woman hoping he will love her.
