About

An exhibition in the Contemporary Counterpoint series devoted to the American artist Vija Celmins, whose work since the late 1960s has focused with extraordinary precision on surfaces such as ocean, desert, sky and snow. She calls these works 'impossible images', without spatial reference points and immersing the viewer in a sense of infinity. The works on display, created between 1971 and 2000, use drawing, painting, printmaking and wood engraving and play on the tension between flatness and illusion. Presented in the museum's pronaos area and contemporary gallery, they enter into dialogue with Monet's Water Lilies, encouraging a slow and attentive way of looking.
