About

The exhibition "HEIDI LAU OUROBOROS" at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. presents an installation of ceramic sculptural work, with a public opening attended by the artist. It is by Heidi Lau, an artist born in 1987 who grew up in Macau and lives and works in New York. The show takes its title from the ancient totem of a snake or dragon swallowing its own tail, a symbol of the cyclical nature of life, death and rebirth. Through hand-built, textured ceramics that draw on the Shanhaijing text and its fantastical creatures, Lau creates ritual objects, funerary monuments, fossilized creatures and miniature universes that blur the mythical and the earthly.
