About

An interdisciplinary symposium titled 'Mediating the Rural: From Ethnography to Design Knowledge' at ETH Zurich, Hönggerberg. It was convened by Radu Remus Macovei, a doctoral fellow in the Department of Architecture, together with Maarten Delbeke (Chair for the History and Theory of Architecture), Laurent Stalder (Chair for the Theory of Architecture) and Noelle Paulson, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Department of Architecture. It asks what counts as 'the rural' and how knowledge of it has been produced and used in design. It examines how rural environments have been made legible through images, texts, objects and institutions, and how these media inform spatial intervention.
