"Une affaire de femmes" is a feature film by Claude Chabrol from France, made in 1988, with Isabelle Huppert in the lead role. It is based on a true criminal case: the story of one of the last women executed in France during the collaboration era of the Vichy regime. Huppert plays a working-class housewife who helps a neighbour with an abortion and soon realises she has struck gold, running a thriving business until her husband, back from a prisoner-of-war camp and financially as well as sexually superfluous, betrays her to the authorities. The film, which sparked fierce protests in France on release, is considered Chabrol's strongest of the 1980s – utterly unsentimental and masterful in its mise en scène.
