Eisler Sinfonietta: Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde.

A concert by the Eisler Sinfonietta, a training ensemble founded in 2018 at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin that brings together outstanding students of the school. The programme features Alban Berg's Piano Sonata op. 1 in an ensemble version by Israel López-Estelche and Gustav Mahler's 'Das Lied von der Erde', a symphony for soloists and chamber orchestra arranged by Rainer Riehn and Arnold Schönberg. Mahler's orchestral songs are based on adaptations of poems from the Chinese Tang dynasty, in seven poems by Hans Bethge, and were only premiered in 1911 shortly after Mahler's death. Performing are the contralto Cassandra Aynard Leonelli, the tenor Seungmin Shin and Manuel Nawri, the ensemble's artistic director and professor for ensemble conducting and new music at the school.
