About
"I want revenge, grandma" is a performance and dance work by Colleen Ndemeh Fitzgerald, presented as part of the Shape Festival. The artist, rooted in Liberia's Kpelle community, asks about the colonial relationship between Liberia and Germany and what it reveals about Europe's centuries-long oppression of Africa and its people. In a sensual, multi-layered performance she invites the audience to face old wounds, hard shells and dusty museum display cases, to remember them and to break them open. Using her own framework of the four R's – restitution, reparations, revenge and return – she connects analysis of the past with concrete demands for the present and future.
