About
Katharina Thalbach reads at the Berliner Ensemble from Gabriele Tergit's first novel, which made her famous overnight in 1931. The staged reading tells of the rise and fall of the folk singer Käsebier and of the glittering dynamism of Berlin at the end of the 1920s. Käsebier, a secret tip, quickly becomes a megastar whose possible success everyone wants a piece of, and he is marketed shamelessly. The staging comes from artistic director Oliver Reese, with staging, design, music and lighting by Katja Pech, Jörg Gollasch and Steffen Heinke.
