About

This special exhibition is devoted to writer and journalist Susanne Kerckhoff (1918–1950), a defining voice of the early post-war years. Mounted by the Mitte Museum and curated by Heike Albrecht, it offers the first systematic presentation of her portrait series „Menschen in unserer Zeit“, published in the Berliner Zeitung in 1948 and 1949. Her named fictional figures draw on real people and on Kerckhoff's own life story, and engage with guilt, denazification, antisemitism and democracy. Five works created for the exhibition by Jeanno Gaussi, likabari a.k.a. Melika Akbari, Eric Meier, Peter Wawerzinek and Jens-Karsten Stoll bring her writing into dialogue with the present.
