About
The exhibition "Zur Situation der Frau in Familie und Gesellschaft" shows the surviving parts of a life-size environment from 1973 that was censored shortly before its opening due to "moral concerns." It was created by then art students Evelyn Kuwertz, Brigitte Mauch, and Antonia Wernery, who examined media portrayals of women in the 1960s and 70s and revealed how women were reduced to the roles of mother, housewife, and sex object. The work is accompanied by sketches and archival materials from Kuwertz's private collection, contextualizing it as an important document of feminist art history in West Berlin. Curated by Nina Marlene Kraus, the exhibition initiates a dialogue with nine contemporary artistic perspectives and raises once again the question of what the situation of women in family and society is today.
