About
An evening talk with hands-on material samples on cellulose as a material, held as part of Berlin Science Week 2026. Researchers from the Technical University of Munich show how plant fibres become stable foams and how the material Cottonid was once used for aircraft parts. The evening leads from the microscopic structure of fibres and papermaking to the question of whether cellulose foams could replace conventional insulation materials. Using a light microscope and numerous exhibits, visitors can discover and touch the structures themselves.
