About

An exhibition of new paintings by Khalif Tahir Thompson, presented at Victoria Miro's London gallery and the gallery's first solo presentation of his work since announcing his representation. Thompson, who was born and is based in Brooklyn, paints vibrant domestic scenes full of texture and pattern that portray the everyday lives of his subjects, both individually and collectively. The show takes its title from the 1973 Stephen Sondheim ballad famously sung by Sarah Vaughan, and reflects, in the artist's words, the ways we use humour to mask vulnerability and respond to tragedy. He describes the exhibition as a love letter to his younger self, his journey as an artist and Brooklyn.
