Thiang Uk: Forever and a day

The Sunday Painter, Bellenden

About

A solo exhibition of paintings by Thiang Uk at The Sunday Painter, marking his first solo show in the UK. His luminous, tumultuous paintings are built from layered color fields, radiating bursts and structures that hold multiple realities in tension. Shapeshifting is both subject and method, picturing the adaptations demanded by new languages, cultures and environments, and draws on animist stories from his grandmother and Christian narratives of his childhood in Hakha, Myanmar. Formal experimentation and lived history remain inseparable across his work.
