About
The exhibition "ALBERT IRVIN To New York and Back Again" is a solo show of paintings by the British artist Albert Irvin at Nino Mier Gallery. It brings together works spanning his turn from figuration to abstraction, shaped by a 1968 visit to the United States, where he met artists including Jack Tworkov and Robert Rauschenberg and was deeply influenced by American Abstract Expressionism. The show follows his shift from oil to acrylic in 1972, with paintings whose color, gesture, and mark-making express, in his words, "the experience of being in the world." Irvin, who lived and worked in London and taught at Goldsmiths College, was elected a Royal Academician in 1998 and named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2013.
