Milton Resnick: three abstract paintings in conversation.

About
An exhibition presenting three of Milton Resnick's most significant mid-career paintings together for the first time: New Bride (1963), Earth (1976), and Elephant (1979). Resnick was a dedicated abstractionist rather than a landscape painter, yet these works act as overall steady-state textures while presenting entire worlds in and of themselves. New Bride, painted a few years after his 1961 marriage to fellow Abstract Expressionist Pat Passlof, appears white but reveals subtle tonal variations from his obsessive layering process, while Earth and Elephant are rendered in his more typical dark palette. Shown in conversation, they evoke the cyclical struggle between form and emptiness—sunlight and shadow, life and death—that dominated Resnick's post-war environment.
